Psychosocial Counseling

Graduate and practicum students from the University of North Texas work with ASC clients in private counseling settings. These students are supervised by Dr. Bob Bennett, M.D. and Dr. Linda Holloway, Ph. D. Additionally, ASC provides 12-Step programs and individual chemical and behaviorial addiction counseling for clients of the shelter including select special speakers and visits to area 12-Step groups. Those clients who find sobriety as well as full time employment, can be connected to community 12-step programs when leaving Austin Street Centre.


Definition of long-term success:
To improve the mental health of Austin Street clients by providing psychosocial counseling, both in individual and in group sessions; to treat clients for addictions including drug, alcohol, gambling, etc.
Definition of short-term success:
Meetings with Austin Street’s executive staff and, as needed, supervising psychiatrist and educational consultant. Random drug/alcohol tests are performed to check for sobriety.
Success monitored by:
Program Facilitator, Program Director, Executive Director
Evidence of success:
Client completes the program
