Common Ground Ministries Summer of Hope

Category: Religion-Related - Christianity
Beneficiaries: Children only (5-14 years)
Priority: 2
Budget: $400.00

The summer program (Summer of Hope) incorporated in 1993, gives the children the opportunity for a variety of experiences and to grow in God's Word. Special speakers, activities, and field trips help teach the children that the world is bigger than their neighborhood. The summer program is an eight week program from 9am-3pm and typically serves 20-25 children.
The children continue studying math and reading so as not to forget the skills acquired during the previous school year.
Were it not for this program, most of these children would be unsupervised at home or on the streets.
Goals:
1.Expose the children to different opportunities through field trips and seminars.
2.Maintain academic success through reading and math logs and other enrichment activities.
3.Build stronger relationships through the children, staff, and their families.

Definition of long-term success:
1. Strong relationships built between students, parents, staff, and volunteers.
2. "Graduated" (over-age) students will return as volunteers.
3. Students will experience different ideas and exposures through speakers, field trips, activities, etc.
Definition of short-term success:
1. Students will keep on track accademically and spiritually.
2. Students will spend their time at Common Ground rather than alone or at home or on the streets.
3. Students will learn spelling words for next years' grade.
4. Students will keep fit through outdoor activities (swimming, basketball, etc.) and games.
Success monitored by:
1. Waiting list for summer program.
2. Student returning for additional summers.
Evidence of success:
1.Students remain on grade level.
2.Daily attendance.
3.Math and reading logs
4.One on one conferences with children and parents.
5.Parental survey.
