Junior Players offers this unique after-school program to middle schools, combining conflict resolution with drama, art, photography and dance. Participants are challenged to write about their life experiences and create their own play for performance. Frequently, visual art projects are also part of the program with teens creating and exhibiting original art work and murals.


Definition of long-term success:
Increased participation from schools and recreation centers. Participants have improved attendance and school outcomes. Funding is diversified.
Definition of short-term success:
To maintain our current level of programming for low-income youth.
To teach basic skills in theater, performing arts, dance and visual arts to middle school students.
To teach conflict resolution skills through use of theater, dance and visual arts.
To increase language skills of children in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
To increase self-esteem and self-confidence.
To increase reading comprehension skills.
To provide access to the arts.

Success monitored by:
A questionnaire specifically designed for the program that is completed by all participants.
Site visits are made by Junior Players’ Education Specialist, Program Director or the Program Manager to insure guidelines and objectives for the program are being adhered to.
Evidence of success:
Increased participation. Improved school culture at participating schools with less violence. Participants continue in Junior Players high school programs and graduate from high school.
