Work Program

The Work Program is a psychosocial rehabilitation program designed to provide job skills, on-the-job-training, substance abuse counseling, psychological counseling and life-skills education to our clients. Program components and participating organizations include psychosocial therapy and life-skills classes provided by University of North Texas practicum students; basic health care screening and support twice a week provided by Parkland Hospital's Mobile Health Care Unit; psychiatric assessment by clinical psychiatrist; substance abuse counseling provided by staff; computer training (including typing skills, data entry skills and e-literacy) by Jesuit Preparatory School students; volunteers from over 120 Dallas area churches, synagogues and civic organizations support the program by providing personal interaction with program participants and serve meals; and on-the-job training at the shelter, our Thrift Store and/or Pathway House, administered by ASC staff.


Definition of long-term success:
The objective is to have our clients regain and develop their work skills, habits and attitudes, to become sober, to regain everything necessary to “graduate” from the program and transition back into the community, obtain and maintain employment, and become independent human beings and productive citizens.
Definition of short-term success:
Stabilize client's life situation and have them remain checmically independent or for mentally ill, to be compliant with their medications.
