CFT FUND HOLDER Peter McGuire surprised his wife, June, with a birthday present that was quite out of the ordinary – creating an endowment at the Notre Dame School of Dallas, which serves children with developmental disabilities.
“I could have taken her on a trip or bought her a car, but recommending a grant in her honor seemed like a better alternative for this significant birthday, and it definitely was. She said it’s the best gift she’s ever received from me,” says Peter.
Peter heard about the Notre Dame School of Dallas from a longtime friend who serves on the board. CFT set up a site visit so that Peter could learn more about the school and take a tour of the facility. During the tour, he was struck by how wonderful the teachers and students were, and even more taken by the fact that private schools like Notre Dame receive no government funding. He decided to establish the Peter G. and June A. McGuire Endowment for the school.
The purpose of the endowment is twofold – to honor his wife and to help the students. “This charitable grant allowed us to plant a mustard seed, and over time it will grow larger to benefit the school,” says McGuire. “Supporting these students and the legacy of this school is better than any vacation.”
