CFT Announce New Board Chair And Trustee

CFT welcomes Jim Bass as the new board chair and G. Stacy Smith as a new trustee

NEW BOARD CHAIR JAMES E. BASS is an international legal, business and civic leader who brings 25 years of corporate finance experience to his new role. He joined CFT’s board of trustees in 2011. Jim Bass serves as a member of the board of managers of Trinity Summits, LLCSnowbird Holdings, LLC and the board of directors of Reata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to moving to Dallas in 2002, Jim was an attorney for Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher in both California and Hong Kong, serving as a co-managing partner of the firm’s Hong Kong office in the mid-1990s. Jim graduated with a B.A. degree from Yale University and obtained his J.D. degree from Stanford University Law School.

On the nonprofit side, Jim has served as a member of the board of trustees of The Trinity Trust Foundation, the Hockaday SchoolSt. Mark’s School of Texas, and the advisory board of the Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility at SMU. Jim and his wife, Hong, live in Dallas and have three children.

“I’m honored to be named chair of this outstanding group of community leaders,” Bass said. “I will work to use my private sector financial and legal experience to strengthen CFT’s legacy as a place where donors and nonprofits come together to serve the important needs of our community.”

G. Stacy SmithNEW TRUSTEE G. STACY SMITH brings a wealth of business and financial experience to the board. He co-founded Trinity Investment Group in February 2013, a firm which invests in private equity transactions and hard assets. Since 2013, Smith has also served as managing partner of SCW Capital, LP, a small-cap equity hedge fund. In 1997, he co-founded Walker Smith Capital, a Dallas-based small and mid-cap equity hedge fund, where he was a partner and served as a portfolio manager until December 2012.

He serves on the board of directors of Independent BankUSD Partners and WhiteHorse Finance, Inc. He is also a member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas.
