Through work and family funds
MEET PAUL
SPIEGELMAN—entrepreneur, speaker, author, leader and culture enthusiast.
Paul Spiegelman is also the co-founder and CEO of BerylHealth, a technology-enhanced patient experience services company dedicated to improving relationships between health care providers and the communities they serve. In 2008, BerylHealth joined Entrepreneurs For North Texas, a program of Communities Foundation of Texas, and in 2009 Spiegelman joined the EFNT Board of Advisors. Since then, Spiegelman has opened the The Teresa and Paul Spiegelman Family Fund and two additional funds with CFT.
The Teresa and Paul Spiegelman Scholarship Fundprovides scholarships to the children of BerylHealth employees. Last year the fund awarded its first scholarship of $5,000. Paul shared that “one of the benefits to having scholarships awarded through the fund is that CFT staff is responsible for managing the application process to ensure that all applications are reviewed and judged impartially.” Plus, he added, “having CFT manage the back-office and accountability made the giving process so easy.”
The Barry Spiegelman Memorial Golf Tournament Fund supports UCLA’s neuro-oncology program, Art of the Brain. The tournament is held every October in honor of Spiegelman’s late brother, Barry. Carolyn Newham, fund administration director, notes, “Prior to opening a fund, Paul had no way to issue tax donation receipts. Opening the fund allows CFT to issue donation receipts to tournament donors and participants.”
We love the new chances to include our children in these activities so that they can experience the benefits of giving to others.
“We set up the funds to help manage our philanthropic efforts,” says Spiegelman. “We also appreciate the communication and events from CFT that help educate us about opportunities for community service. We love the new chances to include our children in these activities so that they can experience the benefits of giving to others. We look forward to adding to our funds and being more active givers in the coming months and years.”
