John and Rheba Myers

JOHN MYERS DID NOT GRADUATE from high school, but was a natural entrepreneur with high standards and immense generosity. After working in the railroad industry and a stint in the Merchant Marines, he discovered he had quite a knack for car sales. He soon became the most successful sales representative in the area and Ford wanted him to run his own dealership. Because he lacked a high school diploma, Ford provided the resources so that he could obtain his GED, a requirement for owning his own dealership, on what was known as the “money-saving mile” in Garland, Texas.

After marrying his wife, Rheba, it was this background that fostered the couple’s wish to create a college scholarship to help students with financial need reach their potential. In 2006, Mr. and Mrs. Myers came to CFT to create an endowed scholarship fund. Upon Mr. Myers’ passing in 2014, the John and Rheba Myers Scholarship began awarding four-year, full-ride scholarships to students in the East Texas community where the Myers family settled nearly thirty years ago.

The Myers’ legacy has already supported three students as they begin pursuing college degrees and their scholarship endowment at CFT will ensure many more students in East Texas will have the chance to attain a degree debt-free for many years to come.
