YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas

The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas' mission is to put Christian values into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA plans to engage their Youth and Government (YAG) program participants in programs that commemorate the 19th Amendment Centennial. They are seeking to increase awareness around gender equity and how it directly affects the world today with two core programs: A Gender Equity Workshop, to be held at the Urban Future Youth Summit at the University of Texas at Dallas in October of 2019, in which students will learn to write projects (bills, proposals, etc.) around women’s issues in the U.S. and around the world; and, in partnership with Girl Scouts, implement a TAG/Model United Nations (MUN) student-led version of their 19th Amendment Presentation model, which will be held at the YAG District Conference in April of 2020. Teens will give a presentation in the spring of 2020 on the Women’s Suffrage movement at various YMCA branches. Currently, 1,600 students participate in the YAG and MUN programs.
