The Dallas Opera is seeking three board members to join for three years in the Fall of 2025.
Board Position
Members of The Dallas Opera Board of Directors provide governance and oversight to the company.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual who is passionate about The Dallas Opera’s mission and its role in the community. TDO believes that it has an obligation to be more reflective of the communities and that the art form, the industry and the city benefit from diversity, equity, and inclusion. Specific responsibilities include:
Fundraising
- Make The Dallas Opera a top philanthropic priority. Lead by example in financial support of the organization – a suggested amount is $25,000 – with a personally significant gift to the annual
- campaign. A Board Member representing a corporate donor of $25,000 or more is expected to give a personally significant gift to demonstrate personal investment in the mission.
- Become a season subscriber to The Dallas Opera; attend the Hart Institute for Women Conductors Showcase Concert and the Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Recital Series; bring others to the opera.
- Support additional campaigns for The Dallas Opera at a personally significant level. Participate in fundraising events and other public undertakings sponsored by The Dallas Opera.
Terms/Participation
- Members serve three year terms unless serving an annual term as a Chair Appointee.*
- Attend three or more of the five annual meetings to engage with The Dallas Opera’s artistic programming, financial status and community outreach.
- Possess a keen interest in the cultural and artistic welfare of our vibrant and diverse community; advocate for The Dallas Opera throughout the community
- In conjunction with TDO management, provide fiduciary oversight to the material and substantive policies of the organization.
- Be an accountable and responsible steward of the fiscal health of the organization and review the company’s annual Form 990 provided to the IRS.
- Commit to being an active member of at least one Board Committee, and to attend and participate actively in regularly scheduled meetings of the full Board of Directors.
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:
- Professional experience with significant accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector
- A commitment to and understanding of TDO’s artistic product, community, benefactors, and other stakeholders
- Affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for the opera and TDO’s commitment to the community
*Per the company bylaws the Board Chairman may appoint up to five individuals to serve an annual term on the Board of Directors.
