A devastating glacier collapse caused catastrophic flooding in Nepal on Wednesday, August 26th, causing significant loss of life.
11,814 people have been rescued, according to Nepalese authorities. More than 1,110 bodies have been recovered, and an estimated 3,900 people are still missing, according to the Nepali government. The scale of the disaster makes rescue efforts a challenge.

CARE Nepal is coordinating with Nepal’s government, disaster-management authorities, humanitarian organizations, and local partners to assess needs in affected communities. CARE says it is preparing to mobilize emergency assistance including shelter, hygiene, and dignity kits as needs are confirmed.
Direct Relief is coordinating with local Nepali healthcare partners and the Ministry of Health to deliver emergency medical aid and relief.
Catholic Relief Services is coordinating with Caritas Nepal and local partners to assess urgent needs and determine how best to support affected communities.
GlobalGiving is providing local organizations with flexible funding to meet urgent needs, including search and rescue, emergency medical care, shelter, food, clean water, and other essential supplies. As needs evolve, the fund will support longer-term recovery and rebuilding, especially for marginalized, remote, and hard-to-reach communities affected by the floods.
Humanity & Inclusion is deploying an emergency rehabilitation team to support hospitals, providing psychological support, and stocking essential items.
Save the Children teams are distributing essential supplies, including baby and hygiene kits, providing clean drinking water to affected families, and working with local authorities to help reunite separated children with their parents.
World Central Kitchen is mobilizing teams to provide meals through the activation of a network of food trucks and emergency mobile kitchens.
Mercy Corps is coordinating with local authorities and humanitarian partners to determine the most urgent needs. The organization reports that immediate priorities include medical care, safe shelter, clean water, food, and essential supplies for survivors, while damaged roads and bridges are making some communities difficult to reach.
All Hands & Hearts is delivering trucks of essential food and shelter supplies, along with vital rescue kits, to support the Nepal Army’s active search-and-rescue operations.
UNICEF is responding to the humanitarian needs of children and families affected by the flooding and has launched appeals related to the Nepal emergency. UNICEF’s disaster-response work can include safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, medical care, nutrition assistance, and protection for children affected by emergencies.
