The Collin County Juvenile Detention Center’s mission is to supply the incarcerated children of Collin County with books, sporting equipment, art supplies, hygiene products, and hope for a better future. Through every small act of kindness, every item donated, and every dollar raised, each child will be reminded that there is a community that sees them and CARES.
When colleagues Cody Weaver and Amy Pagan toured the Collin County Juvenile Detention Center with Leadership Plano, they noticed flat basketballs, few books, and a profound lack of hope. Cody formulated the idea of a book drive and Amy volunteered to help. With the support of their community and the staff of the Detention Center, the idea quickly evolved into Collin County Juvenile Detention Center Foundation Fund. All items are chosen based on both the needs and rules regulated by the Collin County Juvenil Detention Center and the advice of local youth librarians.
Every book received through the fund bears a bookplate reading:
“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.” ― Roald Dahl, Matilda
Provided with love and support from the people of Plano and Collin County.
