The Sweetheart Ball – Continuing a Tradition of Generosity and Impact
Founded in 1981 in memory of Gail “Gigi” Griffiths Hill, the Sweetheart Ball began when eleven of her close friends honored her legacy by establishing the Gail Griffiths Hill Chair in Cardiology Research at UT Southwestern Medical Center. What was an annual dance club fundraiser has become a powerful tradition dedicated to advancing heart health.
Now in its 44th year, The Sweetheart Ball has raised over $46 million to support transformational cardiovascular programs, research, clinical care, and innovations at UT Southwestern. Every dollar raised is matched by an anonymous donor at UT Southwestern, doubling the impact and helping to maintain its position as a leading medical institution in the country.
The Sweetheart Ball continues to work closely with UT Southwestern leadership, including Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern Medical Center, to fund the most pressing needs within the Division of Cardiology. Contributions now support the Sweetheart Ball Fund for Cardiology, fueling groundbreaking research and treatments that save lives and heal hearts.
Our Mission
The purpose of The Sweetheart Ball shall be to support and make contributions and donations to any charitable, benevolent, religious, eleemosynary, educational, scientific, medical, or social agency or organization located in Dallas County, Texas, which concentrates primarily on the prevention and treatment of heart disease.
